Reasons for Chelsea to be cheerful...

1. Barcelona have never advanced from the semi-finals of the European Cup after losing the first leg. This stretches back over five previous semi-finals, including one against Leeds in 1975.
2. Six of Barcelona’s last nine defeats in the competition have come against English sides, with Chelsea recording three of those wins.
3. Chelsea are the only team Pep Guardiola has not defeated as Barcelona manager. He has played three, drawn two, lost one.
4. Guardiola’s side are capable of slipping up at home in the Champions League. They lost 2-1 to Rubin Kazan in October 2009. The last English team to win there was Liverpool in 2007.
5. Lionel Messi may be Barcelona’s all-time top scorer (with 243), and may have hit 63 goals this season, but he has not scored against Chelsea in seven attempts.
...and reasons to be fearful
1. Barcelona have not lost at home this season. In 114 home matches under Guardiola (below), since he took charge in 2008, they have lost only six times.
2. In their 26 home games this season, Barca have failed to score only once – against Seville. They have netted four or more goals a staggering 15 times.
3.The Nou Camp pitch is two metres longer than the Stamford Bridge pitch and one metre wider at 105m × 68m.
4. In 2000, Chelsea, playing their first Champions League campaign, took a 3-1 advantage to the Nou Camp, and – with Di Matteo and Guardiola on opposite sides – were thrashed 5-1, losing 6-4 on aggregate.
5. Barcelona have won 13 of the last 16 trophies on offer in all competitions and Chelsea’s Champions League record at the Nou Camp is played five, won none, drawn three and lost two (goals for five, goals against 10).
