European and world champions Spain will use team tactics to stifle Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday.
Coach Vincente Del Bosque admits he's "one of the best
in the world" but is unlikely to change his game plan to stop the Real
Madrid forward.
"He's one of the best in the world and if we want to stop him it will have to be a collective effort," said Spain's Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.
Ronaldo, 27, has been Euro 2012's stand-out player scoring three goals.
He was on target twice as Portugal
defeated Netherlands 2-1
and hit the winner in the
1-0 victory over the Czech Republic.
Ronaldo has come into the tournament off the back of an excellent domestic season, in which he scored 46 goals for his club in 38 league games.
The one-time Manchester United player is expected to face former Liverpool full-back Alvaro Arbeloa on the flank of the Donbass Arena in Donetsk.
Arbeloa's team-mates have pledged to come to his aid in a team plan to prevent Ronaldo from exerting influence on the fixture.
Fellow Barcelona and Spain player Xavi said: "We have a great full-back in Arbeloa, who is among the best out there defensively speaking.
"We'll try to cover for him, to make sure Ronaldo doesn't settle and we don't let him turn."
Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso, who lines up alongside Ronaldo for Real Madrid, confirmed his team will not adjust their normal game plan as they seek a third successive final appearance in a major tournament.
"In this case, we will analyse Cristiano's game and there may be small adjustments but we will try to play as a team because that's the best way to stop a player."
Alonso also dismissed criticism of Spain's style of play at Euro 2012. In two of their four matches Del Bosque has opted not to field a striker, and the coach has used terms such as "not so good" and "drained" to describe recent performances.
But Alonso remained steadfast: "Whatever people say I don't think we are going to change. I am pretty sure that most of the fans are enjoying great football games and great football teams."
